Don, as you can imagine, this is a loaded question. First of all, you need to get out of trouble. To do this, use ice (ice plus water in a plastic bag on the skin directly) for 30 minutes daily (lie prone, place the ice on your back). Second, rotation is pretty safe (the facet joints protect your disc). To do this half sit (butt on the table, feet on the floor) wrap your arms around your chest, and rotate left and right 5 minutes at a time pain free. Do this every hour or so. Third, try to walk to get your heart rate up as best you can. Lying around is the worst thing you can do.

Good luck

I would highly recommend ice packs...I use a system called IceDown...they can be seen on www.icedown.com

Different velcro bands with ice packs hidden within are easily attached to any part of your body. They have small ones for wrist and neck, larger ones for back, and even ones for shoulders and knees. I have found them to be an excellent value as they keep the ice where it is needed for as long as it is needed.

FWIW I use both the neck and lower back packs for relief from pain generated by spinal stenosis. I oftentimes strap one on for the ride to and from my office (30 min each way) this removes inflammation like no medicine available! I'm sure it would be recommended for bulging discs as well, but, of course, ask your physician first!

Best of luck, I know back pain in NOT fun!

Bulging Discs and Platelet Lysate

Post by mccartjt » September 28th, 2009, 11:42 pm

Don

I was diagnosed with a bulging disc and I've just had an injection into the L5S1 disc of Platelet Lysate. In 5 days I gone from constant pain to almost no pain at all. Although its too early to say its permanent I have had a major improvement with the platele injection in my back.. I am relieved from the pain going away!

Don

I am now a month post my spine (epidural) injection. I got a special injection of platelet lysate and small amount of steroid. I am way way way better as of right now. Previously I was climbing the walls with agony on my L5/S1 joint from May22nd thru September 23rd. My back has been improving every day since. I am very grateful to my doctor. He's a pioneer in his field of expertise. You can check out his website @ http://www.regenexx.com
