ACL Surgery and knee clean-up

Post by matheny00 » September 29th, 2009, 9:36 pm

I am going into surgery in the AM to have my ACL replaced using a cadaver tendon so the surgery is arthroscopic and then a meniscus tear repair. Any suggestions on using the erg for a rehab unit and if so what work out would you suggest.

Thanks

I have had keyhole on both knees to repair damaged cartilage , last one was 9 years back, 100% recovery.
I did use the erg within a few weeks, just kept the drag low and used a short slide so as not to put any pressure on. I was running within 4 weeks
Good Luck

Thanks it turned out that there was a tear in the ACL and the could clean it up as it was pinching so no ACL replacement. They also found a bone spure so that was great. Thnaks

Knee Rehab

I agree with Steve - low drag, easy strokes and don't rush things. This what I have done after having my knees repaired & hip replaced. The biggest mistake you can make is rushing things (too much drag, going too fast/hard) even though you will be chomping at the bit to ramp things up. Andy

I had the 'dead lady's ACL tendon replacement a couple of years ago. And some meniscus cleanup. I used the erg right away carefully and not with maximum effort. I shortened my stroke to minimize the 'bend' for a while, and used my good leg more than my repaired one. I was pleased at the result-my leg was more stable right away, although I didn't feel that I had regrown my own tendon (thats what happens with this surgery) for more like 9 months instead of 6 months. Probably due to my age.

ACL Clean up and what next

Matheny

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with your rehab. I've bulged a disc in my L5/S1 joint and at the moment doing lots of swimming and laying very low on the C2 erg. Are you aware that PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma ) would also help your knee recover? Its great for ligaments and tendons.. If you talk to your surgeon he may be able to hook you up! Good luck to you in your rehab! Please keep us all posted..
