8x500 pieces as indicator of predicted 2k time

Post by dannyb321 » March 17th, 2024, 2:36 am

can you roughly predict your 2k time from your 500 interval times? yet to do a 2k on the skierg so don't really have an idea what to set out for which means I could go too hard or too slow. currently doing 8x500 with 1 minutes rest at an average of 2.11.

any ideas???

thanks in advance!

Hi, for me 500 r2 intervals are on 1:42.2 average and a recent 2k was at 1:46.5, but it wasn't a really good day (compared to the intervals day) in terms of fitness.
So the 'real' difference is a bit less, probably 2-3s/500 and a 2k at 1:44-1:45 should be possible.
Same rule applies for the rower: 500m r2 intervals average at 1:37.8 and a recent 2k at 1:39.3 giving a difference of roughly 2s/500m.

The shorter rest for you could give a more spot on result for a 2k, probably even a bit slower average pace of ~+1?
So if you're performing the intervals on the edge, a 2k of 2:10 could be achievable, giving you a result of approx 8:40.
