SkiErg noise level compared to Model D Rower

Greetings to all forum users.

I'm Mario from Italy, currently in Lockdown, but thanks to this forced quarantine fortunately the spread of the virus is decreasing significantly.

I am a happy owner of a Concept 2 model D rowing machine, very happy about it.
I would like to buy a SkiErg to further enhance my training.

I'm looking for information if the noise level of the SkiErg FlyWheel is the same as the rowing machine, or if it is lower because I think the forces applied are lower than the rowing machine.

In addition to the FlyWheel noise during use, I read that there is also a kind of "clunky noise" probably coming from the clutch assembly. Is it true ?

Do you think the overall noise level of the SkiErg mounted on the wooden stand is acceptable in domestic indoor use?

Thanking in advance for any answer, best greetings to you all!

Its really the same, its the same flywheel which makes the same noise at the same drag/speed. So if you know how a rower sounds, you know how the skierg sounds.

ciao come va...
With the correct technique the sound from both the Rower and SkiEg are the same.
A gentle 'whoosh' 'whoosh' sound .

As you have the rower and are experienced with it you will be familiar with this.
You may have seen bad technique, when inexperience users snatch at the catch and rush back on the recovery.
This when they get clunks from the rower chain and ski erg pulleys.
Think power - patience - patience
A good video a of sculling technique, catch feather feather --catch feather feather...

this is the same kind of timing used for double pole skiing. pole slide slide pole slide slide

The clunk noise I'm getting is from the bearing cups. My Video here

I have the SkiErg fixed to wall. More stable and takes up less floor space.
I prefer this as I find any movement distracting on longer sessions.
ciao tenere bene

No clunk noise with mine — pretty quiet. I can use it and have the tv on in the background and hear it with no problem.

Hi Mario,

I'm a newbie; in fact I received mine just 2 weeks ago.
I guess the more experienced rowers told the truth; there's no way a Skierg should be more or less noisy than a rowing ergometer in a close environment.
My SkiErg is on a floor stand for ease of storage, and because I plan to move it soon in my new garage; this could maybe amplify the noise if you stomp while pulling hard in high intensity workouts.
I'm not yet at this level of speed/power right now...

What I can tell you for sure is, if you live in a condo like me, you'd probably better have a nice neighborhood relationship, and my advice is to avoid early morning/late evening workouts to be polite.

Thank You for your opinion. Yes, I live in a condo and I usually made workout in the very early morning. Actually the rower is on the outside garden where I can row without hassle to made noise. I will made the same for the SkiErg. Greetings from Italy!
