Arm weights?

Brand new here and to the Erg world.
I know this would slow me down, however if my goal is to increase my effective arm work out, what effect would you guess using 3# wrist weights would have?

If you want to increase your arm workout then do weight training separate from the skierg.

Yeah, I know.
I still can't help but wonder about the possible effects. Was hoping maybe someone had tried it and could say what their experience was.
Maybe I'll be the first.
My guess is that it make the repeated upswings harder and fatigue my biceps quicker, but wonder if the extra weight might make the down swing slightly easier and take some of the work away from the triceps.

Give it a try, the skierg very much uses the pulling muscle, for balance it would certainly be usefull to do above head push work also. If you could combine it with the skier?

This is a very good idea to build more endurance.
I do an uphill dryland skimo double pole workout with one pound weights on my trekking poles, but never thought of doing it on my ski erg.

Have you tried this yet? If so, I'm interested in what results you got. Keep in mind the bungees pull up a couple of pounds on their own.

I'm still very new, so it's hard for me to compare. I used a set of 2 lb/about 1kg dumbbells that I already have for a just 2k efforts, which was a bit awkward to hold. But it did work. I wouldn't say it made a dramatic difference, but it's probably just not enough weight/long enough effort. I think the 5lb/2kg set I have will be too big to get a great grip.
I keep looking at arm weights on Amazon. They're almost all sleeves with bags of sand as weights that look cumbersome and like they'd be likely to slide.

Let's assume for simplicity that adding mass to your hand/wrist area on the ski-erg will cause you to work your biceps more. Is there a specific reason you want to do this as part of a cardio workout, as opposed to a traditional weightlifting workout? Because it's certainly quite simple to do it "the old fashioned way" with weights (curls) and it just takes a few minutes. Plus, if you want variety, there are tons of different types of curls.

I do a simulated SkiErg routine that mimics the movements of x-country skiing while holding 3# dumbbells using a primarily single pole movement (interspersed some 10 rep double pole sets) for 5-10 mins at a time. Works well for me to help build up strength and endurance.
Give it a try to see how it feels/works for you.

3 lb wrist weights would be quite bulky, since they, at best, are filled with sand & iron filings. If there were filled with lead birdshot, that might make for a tidier package. These would probably work your anterior delts more than your biceps. Since they are so light, wouldn't do much for strength or hypertrophy, strictly for conditioning. Give 'em a try & please let us know how you find them. Either way, the skierg, by itself, will give you a great workout.
