Squeaky Skierg (coming from Top Right Pulley)

Post by dcpattie » July 22nd, 2019, 2:02 pm

I've developed an annoying squeak on my Skierg - its coming from the top right pulley (I think). It never starts right away, only after about 4k of skiing. The squeak goes away when I pull slightly harder on the left side. Anyone else have this issue and if so, what did you do to fix the squeak?

Have you checked the manual and the routine maintenance stuff?

I didn't see anything about what I'm about to suggest, but I'll mention it just the same:

When I hear squeaking at something like a pulley, which presumably has some sort of bearing to me that usually means insufficient lubrication. I have no clue what sort of bearings or lube the Skierg pulleys use, but it's worth checking. Maybe a teeny bit of oil...

If you're still unsure, call C2 and see what they say.

Good Luck

Yes, there's been a squeal from my Skierg since getting it a year ago. It's on the left cord, squeals periodically internally, which I think is from the middle / back pulley but it could be at the top. Also the cord rubs internally on every recovery which is definitely in the middle. The cord probably rubs on the drive too but fan noise makes the rubbing harder to discern. The cord is completely black, and continues to rub even after the holes were made bigger. I did talk with Josh at C2 about this last fall, but haven't resolved it yet.

My SkiErg 1 lived in an unheated garage for years and eventually developed a squeaky pulley - cost of a replacement was nominal and resolved the issue with minimal cost and effort.

Hey,

My ski erg's right pulley is also making a low/dull squeaking noise. I think it's coming from the mechanism within rubbing but any feedback on things you guys did to stop it would be great!

Thanks,

I think it's always best to try the simple & inexpensive remedy first. My Ercolina developed the same problem. Isolated where it was occurring, a drop of 3-in-one oil added and no more squeeking. Hope your's is as simple. Otherwise, R&R time.
