I just tried the SkiErg!

Post by Harpo316! » September 5th, 2013, 2:35 pm

I'm seriously considering ordering the SkiErg. I drove from West Des Moines, Iowa to Minneapolis to try the SkiErg.
I liked it a lot and the only thing keeping me from ordering one now is one concern I have.
I started with the damper on 4 and felt it was too easy. I'm a 6'1 190 pound man 49 years old of average strength. I then put the damper on 10 and went hard for about 13 minutes.
Having the damper on 10 seemed the perfect setting for me. I'm in good cardiovascular condition from doing the Cybex Arc Trainer 17-20+ minutes 5 times a week...I use high settings (high resistance) on the Arc Trainer and keep
my heart rate between 160-170..so I do train hard. Still, I was surprised that the damper on 10 seemed the perfect setting for me the very first time I tried it. My concern is that as I
improve on the SkiErg the 10 will become too easy as there are no higher settings on the damper. It's not that I'm unusually strong at all so I was really wondering if there are other ways
of controlling the resistance that I'm missing?
Other than that, I'm very impressed with the SkiErg. All the Best: Mark

You don't mention any results/stats from your erging effort. What was your stroke rate, your av pace/500m, total distance skied in the 13 minute effort. This would provide a lot more data for some relevant feedback on your first experience with a ski erg.
