Good for you, Kini! The 10k is a tough event. Nice finish too. B)

And you should be pleased! That is a hard effort. Broke 50 minutes one time, still remember it well. That last 2k shows a lot of strength.
Have seen much on media about the big island getting hammered weather-wise. Wondering if one of the upticks here is that gotten more indoor training as a result. Congrats on the 10k PR.

Thanks Steve.
As for indoor training, I'm only partially indoors. My rower and skierg are on my lanai, open to the world on 3 sides. I occasionally get rain blown in to the point I can't exercise out there but that is pretty rare. Most of the time the rain just comes down in torrents that seem to heavy to blow. :D

Got about another 6+ inches of rain overnight to this morning. Hopefully by Friday it will be gone.

That sounds awesome, and you must be well trained for heat and humidity.

New 10k PB on the Skierg, 2:11 faster than 4 weeks ago. I warmed up with a 5k, gradually going faster
to just above my goal pace for the start. My goal was under 48:50, and hopefully 48:20 or a little bit faster.

time meters 500m spm
47:57.0 10k 2:23.8 43
9:46.3 2000 2:26.5 45
9:41.0 4000 2:25.2 43
9:35.5 6000 2:23.8 43
9:30.0 8000 2:22.5 42
9:24.2 10km 2:21.0 43

I was feeling strong and getting ahead of my 27-26-25-24-23 pace goals. The last 2k and 1k were getting quite tough,
especially the last 500m, so I was mostly just hanging on at that point, but did a little kick the last 100m. The estimated
5k's were 24:15.1 (pb) and 23:41.9. My next goals are first to recover, then maybe aim for a 5k pb within the next two weeks.

Nice one John. I hope to be able to do that when I get to that age.

New 2K PB tonight.

8:32.3 r48

I think I could've gone a little harder on the middle two 500s and broke 8:30. Oh well, next time.

Two new PBs for me tonight:

First, 5k - 25:59.7 (from 27:37.8 on 29 July)
Then, 1k - 4:58.8 (from 5:18.5 on 8 July)

Pleasing to just sneak under 26' and 5' respectively, though possibly not the wisest thing to attempt two back-to-back PBs in the same session!

This was one of those times when I could have wished for the projected finish field on the monitor to not be there, as when it's showing 26:04 and 5:00 with a minute or so to go, it just makes you try to put even more effort in to dip under the next minute barrier!
Row: 500m 2:04.7 | 1k 4:19.4 | 2k 8:55.4 | 5k 23:13.7 | 6k 28:43.9 | 10k 49:31.8 | 1min 257m | 4min 908m | 30min 6,328m
Ski: 500m 2:18.8 | 1k 4:58.8 | 2k 10:01.6 | 5k 25:59.7 | 10k 52:44.7

New 2k PB tonight: 10:11.3, a decent chunk off from the previous 10:23.8 on 27 Aug. Starting to think sub 10' is not too far away! Will do more 400m or 500m interval work at 2:30 pace and below, with 90s or 60s rests.
Row: 500m 2:04.7 | 1k 4:19.4 | 2k 8:55.4 | 5k 23:13.7 | 6k 28:43.9 | 10k 49:31.8 | 1min 257m | 4min 908m | 30min 6,328m
Ski: 500m 2:18.8 | 1k 4:58.8 | 2k 10:01.6 | 5k 25:59.7 | 10k 52:44.7

Kini and Paul, it's awesome to see you both getting brand new PBs! :D
Kini, that's an inspiring rating for your 2k. Paul, way to go smashing 3 PBs in a row!

I tried a 4x5k session a week ago, but bonked after 3 of them, so I was determined to try it again yesterday.
My goal was to get as far on a 21k as possible, hopefully at least 15k, but was fairly certain that I'd not be able to finish.
My goals: 1) finish at least 15k, 2) finish 21k, at any pace, 3) break 2:30 pace, 4) break 1:45. I expected to do #1, maybe #2.
I set the splits for 3k, and roughly aimed for 2:33 2 1 0 9 8 7. The effort was getting plenty hard enough about half way through.

time meters split spm
1:44:55.3 21+ 2:29.2 40 ~ 21.097k pb
15:11.0 03000 2:31.8 40
15:05.3 06000 2:30.8 40
15:00.5 09000 2:30.0 39
14:51.4 12000 2:28.5 39
14:48.2 15000 2:28.0 39
14:47.6 18000 2:27.9 40
14:44.8 21000 2:27.4 41
00:26.4 21097 2:16.0 45
bikeerg 75 5'8" 155# - 18.5 - 51.9 - 568 - 1:52.7 - 8:03.8 - 20:13.1 - 14620 - 40:58.7 - 28855 - 1:23:48.0
rowerg 56-58 5'8.5" 143# - 1:39.6 - 3:35.6 - 7:24.0 - 18:57.4 - 22:49.9 - 7793 - 38:44.7 - 1:22:48.9 - 2:58:46.2

Sort of an accidental 30 minute PB last night. Started out kind of slow and easy, saw that with about 6 minutes left my predicted finish was around 6575 meters or so. Last 3 minutes cranked it up to the predicted finish was just over 6600. Finished with 6603 meters.

Don't remember the stroke rate. Kind of soft based on my 10K but I didn't set out to PB so a nice surprise in the end.

Hi Kini, a pb's a pb, and you did it. That's what counts.

I was nervous about doing a 5k pb attempt this morning, but it turned out to be fine.
My pace goals were 2:24.0-3-2-1-0, and I managed to do about a second faster for each split.

time meters 500m spm
23:29.5 5k 2:20.9 44
4:45.9 1000 2:22.9 46
4:43.7 2000 2:21.8 45
4:42.2 3000 2:21.1 44
4:40.5 4000 2:20.2 43
4:37.2 5000 2:18.6 44

I finally did a 5k, woohoo! The last 2k was 1 tenth faster than my 2k pb.

Based on watts per weight, my time for the 5k today put me 7th out of 13th all time in the 70-79 men's
division, with 3 guys who are very close just ahead of me, and my 10k four weeks ago put me 4th out of 12th.

Great jobs, Kini & John. Hard efforts!
Have laid off 'hard' this past week due to shoulder / back issues. Was able to set a new PW (personal worst) in a half marathon row yesterday. Hey it was still a half marathon that counts toward the team challenge, so happy with that. Maybe we should start a 'can't all be PB thread' :D .

John, don't think it will happen but would celebrate if lighter (as in 60 kg & under male) weight classes were figured in. Not a lot of torque but decent endurance. Planning on 5 & 10k PB ski attempts, motivated by both of you! Keep on skiing...
