Should I get a SKIerg alongside my rower.

Post by MiddleAgeCRISIS » February 16th, 2021, 7:00 pm

I've been rowing quite a lot from April till now and I was wondering whether to swap my rowing with Skierg.

I've realised that my thoracic spine is hypermobile and I think that the ski erg might be a means to strengthen and stretch this area. I've not tried one / is it like a lat pulldown early doors?

In addition, i've suffered from patella tendonitis and my knee cap isnt particularly tracking brilliantly ( cricket injuries and riding with my saddle too low when mountain biking) . Any body noticed a benefit from the skierg in both areas?

Also and this reflects my current approach to exercise , can i skierg and watch tv as that tends to keep me going!

Also , as a workout how does it compare to the rower and can i continue with my low intensity 107bpm HR approach i do when rowing or would it be next level lame.

Thanks in advance.

I have both but have had the rower a lot longer and I spend more time rowing. If I had to choose I'd go with the rower but I can see how the skierg would be better for anyone with back or knee issues. My heart rate stays lower on the skierg mostly due to smaller muscles involved but it's as hard or easy as you make it.

Re tv, skierg does involve doing a goodmorning, so you look down a good bit of the time.

I use the RowFree iPad holder on my SkiErg: https://www.rowfree.com/products/rowfree

I have both and love both.
But i will say i don't alot of long slow on the SkiErg, is more middle distance stuff.

Watching TV on the SkiErg...?.....i can't see that, i listen to Podcasts and i love watching tv when rowing.

I bought SkiErg as something to do when my legs are zapped from cycling, running and rowing.
But i'll have to say it opened up a whole world of where i lacked core fitness.
I don't think there is any other exercise that is going to hit the anterior chain so well.
