Best heart rate strap for Ski Erg?

Post by mshaffer » December 4th, 2020, 2:57 pm

Hi, does anyone know of a good heart rate monitor strap to use with the Ski Erg? I guess I'm just worried about the strap slipping down. The strap with my Polar S610 would sometimes slip down and it was pretty annoying.

Thanks

I looked up the S610....it's a wrist worn HRM? Do you just want to change the strap or are you looking for a totally new HRM, like a chest strap or arm band model?

Yea it's a wrist worn HRM with a chest strap. I guess the strap that comes with it doesn't work with the Ski Erg. I tried it and nothing happened. I guess the batteries could be dead too. I guess I'll just order the Polar H9 strap. It should last a while.

I'll put a recommendation in for the Polar OH1+. Esp, if like me, you find anything around your chest uncomfortable. No problem with slippage when using my Ercolina. Only downside is, it can't be used to measure HRV.

I have a Garmin watch and it doesn't work very well at all for rower or skierg. I have an old Polar strap that is ok but it still seems to cut out often on the rower so I rarely get a full read on avg. HR. Will have to research the recommendations above so thanks all.

I ended up getting the OH1+. It's so much more comfortable than the strap.

What do you need to pair the OH1+ with? A PM 5, Strava or a Polar app? I have a PM3 on the rower and a PM5 on my skierg. I would like to use it on the bike too.

Unfortunately, your PM3 won't pair up. Either BT or ANT+ will work with your skierg. BT will work with Polar Beat & Flow.

Anyone compared the Polar OH1+ with the HRM built into the Apple Watch? Wondering if one already has an Apple Watch is there any reason to get an optical sensor HRM like the Polar OH1+.

Here’s a chart comparing features of three of latest Polar monitors, for anyone in the market.

My SkiErg is about 6 years old. The sensor that came with it died.

Looking for a cheaper replacement than buying a new strap from C2, after reading reviews on Amazon I ended up with a:

XOSS Chest Strap Heart Rate Monitor Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Heart Rate with Chest Strap Health Accessories (Black Bluetooth&ant+)

I've used it for a month now and am delighted.
It pairs with my PM5 easily, consistently reports my heart rate and only cost $36.

(I tried but returned a Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 Bluetooth Fitness Tracking Smart Band (a wrist strap). It paired with the PM5 OK, but rarely reported my heart rate.)

Looks like Polar updated the OH1+ to the Verity Sense with a longer lasting battery. I like it!
