SkiErg maintenance

Post by PGH_row » November 8th, 2019, 10:04 am

I just bought a SkiErg2 used from a fitness facility ($400! :D). It has 1,400,000 meters on it. It was built in Dec 2014.

I've looked it over and the handle cords are very worn. I was going to replace the handle cord and the shock cord at the same time. I will vacuum out the fan assembly too.

Is there anything else that I should consider replacing as a part of the maintenance of a well-used SkiErg?

I hope they wear as well as the rower and dyno that I have, but I am not as familiar with the SkiErg.

Drop Concept 2 an email and pick their brains for their maintenance schedule.
1.4million in 5 years, not a huge amount.
Give it a good clean, strip down all the rollers etc, fan casing and away you go.
Watch when you replace the cords that you get the tension right or you may get a slight tension lapse.
Take pictures and measurements of existing cords, bunny too.
A little hint is to have some clips and or tape to hold cords while tying them in and threading them through the pulleys.
I replaced one a few years ago after it broke and could have used an extra pair of hands.
Bon courage and a good purchase

I've replaced both the handle cords and the bungee shock cords on my Skierg2 and it was easy to do.
These videos regarding the handle cord and shock cord replacements have been especially helpful and useful.
Be sure to save the old handle cords, as you can always use them for extensions, and perhaps for other things too.

At 2:27 of the bungee video, I prefer doing 1/2 or 1 1/2 wraps of the cords instead of 2 1/2 wraps.
Also, at 2:57 I prefer doing a single overhand knot, which fits much better in the hole than a double one.
The handle cords also have a single overhand knot, so there's no reason to have a double one for the bungees.
