SkiErg vs Ercolina Poling Machine

Post by XCwestslope » October 27th, 2014, 2:18 pm

Shopping for a ski specific trainer. Has anyone tried the Ercolina and can describe how it compares to the SkiErg?

I have tried both, and chose the skierg, even when it was double pole only. I would say the greatest selling point of the Ercolina when I bought my skierg was the fact that it allows single sticking. At that time, the skierg did not. But the new model of the skierg, which I now have, does that, too. For ease of tension adjustment and quality, I would go for the skierg every time. The only circumstance in which I would make a different choice? If I was traveling all the time and wanted the machine with me. The Ercolina is packable. It would be need to be set up in a new location every time you wanted to use, but at least it would be available to you. My vote goes to the skierg, which is smoother, easier to use, and quieter. And it feels as though it will last longer, too.

The same here. I still have Ercolina but bought the new SkiErg a two months ago. The workout is the same, but what Concept2 offers is the precise power output, stats (you can download it to SportTracks or any other analysis software if you like it) and ability to race your buddies online or your own pace boat - with RowPro software.

I have Ercolina with their computer, btw. It offers very limited functionality. The only real advantage of Ercolina is its portability. I would not say that single polling is that important. You use these machines for arms and core strength and you develop these with double polling.
