New SkiErg - new PM ?

Post by pkiszk » August 20th, 2014, 2:11 am

Hello everyone,

I am sure all of skiers have noticed a new SkiErg on Concept2 website. Does anyone know anything about the new PM ? Is it compatible with rowing machines ? Can it be used on a Model D/E rower ? And, more importantly - can it be used in RowPro ? My aim is to train with SkiErg on RowPro but also use the new PM on the rower, if it offers new functionalities. Concept's website is silent about the new features.

regards,

Skierg PMs have a different program; using them on a rowerg would not show the same numbers as the PMs that are programmed for the rowerg.

Added note: I think that the watts must be the same on both ski and row ergs. It is the pace, time, and distance that would have a difference. An erg measures the work done directly. The pace/distance/time values are virtual, based on an arbitrary standard. The rowerg is based on the speed of one of the 4s. I assume that the skierg is based a single, skilled cross country skier.

Starting with the PM2, all performance monitors use the same code or mathematics to measure output from any Concept2 ergometer. While we do not recommend doing so, a SkiErg monitor will work on any Indoor Rower* and any Indoor Rower monitor (PM3 or newer) will work on any SkiErg. The

There are some differences in the programming, but these differences are mostly "cosmetic"; changes in the text and graphics.

*Assuming the monitor is set to the correct Indoor Rower model.

If you have any questions about monitor features or compatibility between models, give us a call, we'd be glad to talk with you.

Trevor,

thank you for confirming what I believed is the case. Your design of the PM is new, so it is unclear if it is a new model or not. Will it read HR data from Garmin heart strap natively ? Are there any new functionalities when compared to PM4 ?

My other key question - what is the availability schedule for the new SkiErg in Europe - in particular - in Poland ! Our local distributor could not give me any guidance on that.

Thanks and regards,

I have the new PM5. I have not fully explored it as of yet but I can tell you it works fine with the Garmin. The major thing I see is that it has a backlight -- I can actually read the screen through the sweat pouring into my eyes. It also uses a USB key instead of a Logcard - yea! Otherwise it seems to be very similar to the PM4. ErgData does not work with it and it does have some trouble reading my Suunto, although it recognizes it. All issues I'm sure that will be fixed soon.

Got mine.

I have the PM5 connected to my Polar H7 BT heart rate monitor and also working with my Polar V800.

Next step updated Ergdata app would be nice.

Gowyn

can you connect your H7 HRM monitor to the PM5 & your V800 at the same time?

the V800 is supposed to retransmit the BT signal, doesn't work! What does work though is sync H7 with the PM5 first, then start the V800, it will connect with the 5KHz signal instead.

Voila, HR on both watch and PM
