I've just agreed to do a 162 mile coast to coast ride in the North of England in June 2011 and want to use my C2 rower to help me train for the event.
The route is mainly off road on tracks and bridleways and although I have done events of this type before (Polaris three times-before kids!), I have not done any for a few years!
Does anyone have any info regarding off road cycling v rower comparisons, or is this too difficult to gauge?
I am rowing C. 30,000 meters per week and cycling 30-50 miles per week on turbo trainer and on/off road. I have rowed a couple of marathons before, best time was 3 hrs 8 mins (6 years ago though).
Any thoughts?
Mike.

Re: Offroad cycling V indoor rowing
Mike; Sounds like you pretty much have it figured out. I use indoor rowing as my cross training for cycling in the winter (since I sold my boat and don't row OTW anymore ) and find I'm as strong or stronger than my teammates who just use the bicycle trainer all winter. Good luck with your event - doesn't look like you'll have any real difficulty with the 162 mi.
Mark Underwood. Rower first, cyclist too.

Try posting on http://concept2.co.uk/forum where the Brits hang out. I know of a couple of rowers on there who've ridden the coast-to-coast. I'm plannng on doing it someday, just for the sheer pain of it.mikeybike wrote:I've just agreed to do a 162 mile coast to coast ride in the North of England in June 2011 and want to use my C2 rower to help me train for the event.
