my private gym.do i need a concept2?

Post by shevchenko » November 16th, 2009, 11:04 am

hello.
i'm from Turkey. i was searching the net and i have knowledge about Concept 2 rowing machine now. %99 of users recommend it.
here in Turkey there s a seller of concept 2. model d 1500 dollars, model e 1900 dollars.
i'm 32 years old. i ve a private gym. a bodysolid homegym, a rack for bench press, dumbells up to 90 lbs. ,adjustable bench, pull ap bar , exercise bike and a dip machine.
but problem is i havent got a fit body. yes i workout , i ve some muscles but i have much fat too. because exercise bike is very boring.i cant motivate myself.and without enough cardio i think i ll never have a fit body.
i ve a plan. i will sell the huge bodysolid homegym. i usually use ,lat pulldown ,leg extension, leg curl and pec dec of it. i can do pull ups instead of lat pulldown ; dumbell flies instead of pec dec. and concept 2 will work my legs as good ad homegym leg extension and leg curl.

and bonus. i wish, i 'll have great condition and low fat body. for 32 years i have never had enough condition. i got tired fast when i play football, tennis.

if i give up selling this homegym machine, i cant purchase concept2 .because of space issue. i ll put concept 2 instead of bodysolid homegym.
concept 2 has online races against real people. or i can race against my old records. i think it s a big motivation.
i dont know if concept2 make muscular legs.because i have thin legs.if so it will perfect.

if i sell this homegym ,i'll still have a nautilus adjustable bench, pair of dumbells up to 90 lbs, a bench rack for bench press ,incline bench and squat, dip ,pull up and concept 2 .enough for fitness.

do you think i'm on the right way?

1.does concept 2 help me gain muscular legs? i ve thin legs.
2.do u think concept 2 s worth replacing that home gym. i paid 1700 dollars for it. i think i cant sell more than 500 dollars :)
3. i ve a professional exercise bike. it has a lot of programs on it. but no motivation for me. i hate going to exercise bike. is concept 2 really different about motivation?

i ll buy a second hand concept 2.
seller says it s 2007 model .
how can i understand it s true?
does it have a label on it ?
i read some changes have been in 2006 for concept 2. so it s good to have a 2007 model i think.

what about the second hand of concept 2 ?
is it a really strong machine that s not problem to have second hand. or do u recommend to pay twice and have brand new one ?

thanks.

The concept 2 rower will make you leaner and fitter. It unfortunately won't make your muscles any bigger but will give them better power endurance.

If you find the exercise bike very boring then you'll also find the Concept 2 rower just as boring. They suffer from the same problem in that they both don't go anywhere. Because they are stationary motivation will eventually become more difficult.

Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

Home Gym

Post by Montanaandy » November 17th, 2009, 12:13 pm

shevchenko - I have a pretty extensive home gym (Stairmaster - the real mcoy not a knock off, top of the line Precor eliptical, top of the line weight equipment). My wife and I are not gym rats and prefer to work out in the privacy of our home. Despite all of my expensive & fancy cardio equipment, I use my C2 more than all of the others combined. In fact I rarely use the other equipment anymore except when I need a break from over-training on the erg. If I had to choose 1 piece of equipment it would be the erg. Montanaandy

You might find Rowpro helps with the boredom problem since you can row on the C2 with other people online:

Good luck

I have similar equipment, and definitely have space issues. I take mine (C2) apart when not in use. It stores in a 2' x 3' floor space. IMO you need strength/resistance training as well as cardio to get "fit" Weight training is essential in a fat loss program.

Sell the bike not the Other equipment. The C2 will fit, folded up, in less space. It takes a total of 10 seconds to set up.

i found a second hand concept 2 model d. with pm3 monitor.
he says serial number is 030804/7
so it s a 2004 model i think. he said he purchased it from someone else and said him it s a 2008 model.

new one price is 2000 dollars here( i m not in USA)
and this second hand is 800 dollars.

it says,
In August 2006, we redesigned the framelock and footstretchers for easier separation and a cleaner look.

http://concept2.co.uk/rower/model_d

so seperation of this 2004 model is not easy maybe.
wish it was a 2007 model .i would buy it for sure

what do u recommend to me?
do i have to make more money and buy a new one? or there s no important difference and do i have to buy this second hand one?

I have a 1997 "C" and it is very easy. I can't imagine that the 2004 would be any harder.

My personal gym is a C2 PM3 and a TACX i-magig VR bike set up. + a stretching mat. This is all you need really - interesting Cv work and very joint freindly. The tacx bike is a superb complimentarary piece of equipment to trhe C2 - loads of software to keep you interested including real live video of TDF and Classics courses. With RowProw ansd Tacx Fortius there is no need to go outside to do some very exiting workouts.

Im no way a gym rat either especially being 60 years young but I have disciplined myself to stick with using both my C2 model E for 30 min 4-5 days a day plus I use my Yowza Elliptical Miami model for 30 min too. I would do it more but I spend 2-3 days a week gone because of my demanding job. I can't say which one is my favorite as they both do a great job. I seem to sweat more on the Yowza but I'm burning more calories on the rower. Both machines are top of the line for what they are designed to do.

I feel like Im in my 30's again (well most of the time Lol) except when I finish working out for an hour. It's kicks my butt but in a good way. I think owning 2 separate machines motivates me as I would have a harder time just sticking to one machine.... maybe. It just seems easier to push myself in working out. I don't like treadmills as I ride my mountain bike but not to the extreme that Im totally exhausted. Weight lifting gets boring so whatever it takes I say go for it as your health is very important.

any gym equipment will make you fitter... if you use it correctly.
just need a decent plan and a bucket of motivation.

the c2erg is low impact - so helps with "bigger guys" when they start off.
you put the effort in - it reqards you with better cardio / fitness etc.

regarding 2. hand models.
the erg is built like a german tank. not much going to destroy one.

I have a Model C paired with a PM5 monitor. I've replaced most of the wearing parts and it's essentially a new machine. I'd substitute a Concept 2 for EVERY other piece of equipment you have. Used properly ( and the good people on this forum will help you) nothing matches it.
