Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center

Post by bloomp » October 30th, 2009, 9:13 am

I was curious as to what y'all had heard about craftsbury in general (it is owned by Concept2 now). Or more specifically the SBTC. I was hoping to spend 4-6 weeks out there next summer.

Lemme know

Row eat talk rowing nap. Row eat talk rowing nap. Row eat talk rowing sleep. That's a Craftsbury day for a camper. In similar fashion, the SBTC interns train twice a day and work with campers to help offset expenses.

Hosmer Pond is a lovely place to row, IMO the food at Craftsbury OC is wonderful, and the coaching both abundant and as good as you let it be for you. Larry Gluckman is a very, very good coach and his results over the years speak for themselves. Personally I think it'd be a great place to put in some hardcore training. About the only drawback would be that the nightlife/social scene/cultural opportunity in upper-middle VT is not exactly hopping....

Great place! Been 4 or 5 times for the 1 week sculling camp in June & July. Nav described it well although I'm usually so tired that night life is irrelevant.

Not actually owned by Concept2. I believe it was sold to a newly formed non-profit organization formed by the founders of C2. One of the brothers has a house on the same lake. They plan to run it as an outdoor exercise center. Rowing in the summer, Cross country skiing in the winter.

Been there. Done that. Sure hope to do it again!

Had a great time. Met a lot of nice people. Ate a lot of good food. Learned how to go faster. Slept real well at night!

Book a session. You will be glad you did.
If you don't try, you will never know how bad you suck.
