I am fairly new to indoor rowing. As an ex-college hockey player, we don't really know when to not over train. However, lately I have been going pretty light around 8-10,000 meters a day. I have noticed my palms are quite sore with blisters even after wearing gloves. I haven't taken the time to read through the 25 pages of posts, but I have been seeing a few people suggest people are gripping the rowing handle too hard or their grip is too firm. Any other suggestions to prevent this? Is there a type of tape that you use for cycling that might work? Or can you just work through it?

What sort of gloves did you use? Haven' t tried it yet, but padded cycling gloves should offer good protection.
As to the firm grip - I tend to do this, too. What helped me is a tipp from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET6IF4pqxBo by Xeno. He advises to spread your fingers / seperate your knuckles when holding the handles. With knuckles well apart your hand can't form a fist, so you rather 'hook' the handle with your fingers instead of clapsing your whole hand around it.

Cycling track mitts (which I normally use on the bike) are useless for the ergo (or a boat) as the padding is in the wrong place. The only way is to loosen the grip and let your hands harden up no gloves or anything. I've got patches of hard skin on every finger (not on thumbs) and haven't had a blister for months.Anja wrote:What sort of gloves did you use? I am also very new to this and have been using the gloves that I got for my strength training. These are essentially to get rid of the sweat that makes the handle so slick. But another help for me is at my ring finger when my skin has been pinched some when not using them.
