rowing technique ?

Post by NELSON » June 4th, 2009, 2:18 pm

During the drive phrase of the stroke, what causes a rower butt to raise off the seat? I see it and know it is not correct but I am not sure how to steer the rower to the correct correction.

THANKS!

Some lightening is good technique. raising the feet can help, more friction on seat (eg seat pad). If done all out, this may just mean that the power needs to be applied a little more progressively (or at a lower drag if not on the first couple of strokes).

What I learned from a research paper and some personal experience is that if you arent pushing with the correct part of your foot at the right time then the force generated will be angled in such a way that with enough effort you will lift off the seat. Try pushing with your heels sooner and think about pushing your knees down instead of pushing against the foot stretchers. That helps me so you could atleast try it.

This would be due to a combination of dipping your hands and hunching over too much at the catch. You can correct this problem by raising your hands and sitting more upright during the catch and drive phase.

Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.
