Is there any benefit or harm to rowing twice a day rather than one long row? Thanks for your opinions ....

There is no harm to it, and if it is easier to put in your miles that way, go for it. However sometimes you have to know what it feels like to go a solid 60mins or more in 1 workout.
Also 2 workouts per day will allow you to easier bump up your miles and vary your workouts. Also if you aspire to be an elite level rower, 2 per day is a must at least a few times a week.
Of course you have to be careful not to over-train, but that can also occur if you train once a day.

nothing at all wrong with rowing 2x a day - I've done it many times and occasionally will row 3x a day if I'm doing shorter sessions.
For me anyway it allows me to push a bit harder

Try it out. Worst that happens is after a week or two you decide you need to go back to once a day.
In terms of benefits, I would guess you can go a little harder on each piece than if you did it all at once. Whether this is actually beneficial to performance is open to debate (depends on training philosophy). A negative is that you may not actually make it back to the erg to do a second piece. Life happens, never can be sure what the afternoon/evening brings. Also, you may be tempted to go too hard too often. Exercise a little control on the intensity and you ought to be ok.
