I'm sure you can all appreciate my excitement at watching my 2 1/2 year old son on the erg.

His first row : sit on seat and push off with both feet ! I nearly fell off my chair when he didn't ! I couldn't believe he kept at it maintaining balance. Did I mention that he want back half way up the slides, repeatedly ...

Second row : sat down, strapless, and started pulling handle, which he unhooked on his own, after a few strokes pulled it right into his upper abdomen, legs bent and stationary. After 20 or strokes he started to push off with his legs and pulled handle up to his abdomen as before ! Kept going at a steady 20 SPM ...

What amazes me is how natural it seemed for him. He really reached into it at the catch and at no point looked like he was about to fly into the catch when returning at the end of his stroke.

Is the motion on the erg really that natural for the human physique or did he really just pick it up watching me, OR am I just a proud father

I'm not sure of the answer, but I think it's pretty cool .

If you want to, there is a thread on the UK forum where people post the 1 minute distance for their kids, they're listed by age. So if you want to compare...

But just glad he's having a good time!

I see a strict training regimen in your son's future...

Erging must be a natural movement. I know the more I think about my form the worse it is and the more I hurt myself.

Good for your son. Hope he stays with it.

Just saw my four year old daughter a couple of days ago climb on, slide forward once, and then fall off and smack her head on the ground. She's physically fine, but now probably has nightmares about rowing. Guess we'll get her into video games.

No way it is natural.
