Left glute cramp/nerve pain

Post by Ninjaitus » October 2nd, 2008, 7:19 pm

I wasn't sure where to submit this question. Recently I've been noticing that either my left glute is approaching failure early or I'm irritating a nerve (sciatic?) I've also noticed that my left leg becomes fully extended before my right, I'm wondering if I'm pushing unevenly.

Any tips for when you complete your drive both legs fully extend at the same time?

I get the same pain both on the water and on the erg, I think on the water it comes from splitting your legs too much as you come to the catch, but that's not a problem on the erg.

Typically when I feel it, I just fix where I'm sitting and try to move to the very front edge of the seat.

Also, there's one stretch I do that helps a lot. Lay on your back, and bring your left leg towards your chest, and turn it out to the side. Put your left foot right under your right knee, and pull back on your right knee but hold your left leg in place (use your right arm to pull, put your left elbow against your left leg and have it hold onto your right hamstring where your right hand is). You'll know it once you get it, mad crazy stretching in the hamstrings/glutes.

See my post below on Pyriformis Syndrome. I have the same problem. Since I also run I'm not sure if the running or rowing or both aggravate the problem. Google stretching exercise for this. That has really helped.
