throwing up after a 2k
Does anybody else have the persistent problem of throwing up directly after a 2k where you definitely gave it ur all? I've done 10 2k tests and thrown up after 8 of them, the other 2 i assume i didnt pull my hardest. Any suggestions about what i can do to prevent it?

How much time before you did these was the last time you ate, and what did you eat? Less than two hours before and I tend to get queezy. If the meal had something really greasy, like kielbasa, I will get queezy even if more than three hours before. I also don't like rice for the meal before - I think it swells and leaves you feeling bloated and feeling like hurling.

Usually I dry-heave after my 2k's because I'm very careful about eating. But, if you are getting, sick, you're definetly working to your full potential (which is a good thing during tests).
At CRASH-B's, my race was at 4:00 PM. I woke up at 11:00 AM and had a PB&J and a cliff bar at 12:00 AM, along with a few waters. I had 2 very light snacks at 2 PM (just to hold me over). Then, an hour before my race, I had an orange.
After my race I dry-heaved and I was good after that. You just need to eat light but maintain carbs during the day, and you should be all set.

It is a good sign, for the most part. It means you really pushed it. Sometimes if I get the "tickly" throat and cough feeling and I cool down on the erg for a long time, say 30 minutes, I find I can kind of overcome the feeling and the cough becomes manageable. I think the guys who decided the 2k is the optimal distance need a thorough butt-kicking.

I've puked tons of time during training...
only puked 3 times that i can remember after a 2k.... I think the biggest reason is that I wasn't adequately warmed up.... also coincidentally on those 2ks which i barfed my score was terrible and my race was really poor in the bottom 300m.
I'd say the number one reason for me was that i wasn't warmed up..
P.S. I remember once at ontario erg champs in 2005 I drank OJ after my race and i basically ran to the garbage can after that. I think the acidity killed me.

I've been all out plenty of times, exhausted, depleted or whatever, and never once gotten sick from rowing.
If you're throwing up then something major is wrong with your diet.

i dont think its what im eating because my tests are usually early in the morning and i just eat a piece of wheat bread about an hour before. It really is less throwing up as much as it is dry heaving as my stomach is pretty empty for the most part.
From the posts it looks like a relatively common thing though so i guess i won't worry too much.
I wonder if it could be a lack of warm up/ proper cool down. i could definitely warm up a bit more but the idea of cooling down on the erg when the meters hit zero just seems impossible.

It is not all that much different than having to row a shell back to the dock after a race. Often the return is not really all that far, but sometimes it can be farther than the race itself, depending on the venue.yahooyellow wrote: i could definitely warm up a bit more but the idea of cooling down on the erg when the meters hit zero just seems impossible.
