Congratulations to all those that have already raced and are still to race! It's about 1pm eastern US time, and things are well under-way.

Mike van Beuren and Roy Brook took the top two spots in the lwt veteran men 55-59 -- great work! Ranger was conspicuously missing from either the lightweight or heavyweight 55-59 category. :o

Greg Cook had a great showing in the top 5 in lightweight master's men! Awesome work, Greg!

Stephansen set a new lightweight world record at 6:02.2. Wow.

that was a lot of fun. i was the last person from my heat to leave the erg because physically i could not move and needed help getting back to the bleachers haha. i was satisfied with a 6:38; i loved the competitive atmosphere.

Somebody should get that kid in a lab. That world record was too easy. Maybe next time he'll put in an effort and actually be tired after the race?

Phil,

Thanks for posting the video. The man is a machine. His expression never changes through the race. No sign of strain.

Did he break his own World Record? How soon before he goes under 6:00 I wonder?

Rich,

He really is incredible. He broke Elia Luini's lightweight world record of 6:02.6 with his time of 6:02.2. It would be monumental if he were to break 6:00 as a verified lightweight. The fact that he's only 19 means he may well have room to progress to that point. :!:

He apparently did a 6 minute test in a lab last year, with a breathing tube attached, and a line in for lactic acid recording, and pulled 1997m

I think he could be capable of sub 6.

The kid is such an impressive athlete, and aerobic god as far as erging goes. Currently holding records in the j18 and Open.

That video is amazing! He never looks rushed or strained and doesn't even look very tired when he is done. Strokes for each minute (assuming I counted correctly): 45 39,40,41,39, 45 plus one more stroke just at 6 minutes.
In the first thirty seconds he does 26 strokes.

Unbelievable that someone could look that good at a 45 rating.
