Sandbagging

Of a paranoid mentality in general I've noted during this recent Virtual event that it is possible to `sink' a team by joining it and doing diddle. But, the team average ranking is a function of the total number meters rowed divided by the number of people on the team.

Just wondering.

I don't attribute sinister motives to those who sign on and don't row. Everyone''s enthusiasms are, in the long view, temporary. Jack

Thanks `jackrabbit.' Like I said ... probably paranoid.

The "main" ranking is done on totals for the team not averages per member?

I would think that whichever ranking is more important depends on the person looking at the ranking. The various listings are there for all to see and you can chose the one you feel is important. I haven't taken part in these things for the last 2 or 3 years, but when I did, I looked at how the team I signed up with compared to others in the same category, mainly type of team (an OTW club) and number of members (5-20?). If there were any slackers, the other members could give them a bit of a push or ask them to sign out if they didn't have the time to really get into it.

Our tiny team (7 at present) was 77th on the VTC when I checked yesterday evening. We have one member not rowing and another out with injury after putting up a few K. Ask me if I care? Both members have contributed before and will again. I was 84th on individual meters this morning. I care enuf about that number to do my best at this flagpole sitter/six day races sort of thing and trust my team mates do also. Jack

Hi Jack -

Good going on the meters. What is the name of your team? I checked under Correctional Institutions, but couldn't find you? :)

Head of your class I see. The reason that young buck pictured can't keep up with you is cause, unlike us, he's able to get on and off the rower without assistance. Jack

For a limited time only, Rowjack (sweet old Jack's evil twin) is in 39th in the VTC. Getting tired of cut Gatorade, bananas and Epsom salts. 55K today for 605,001; shooting for 700+ total. 5 days to go so a supersized HM every day should do it.

(I took a screenshot of my success at clawing my way to the middle but had trouble uploading to P-bucket.) Jack
