An experienced coach taught me a while back to move my hands away quickly at the finish of the stroke, and then relax up the slide. This seemed to work great on a boat, but tends to cause the chain to shake on my new rower. I have slowed the speed of my hands a little to reduce the chain shake and it feels a little better...is this OK, or is there another technique I should try? I tend to rate at about 23 over most of a 5K...
Thanks!
Dale

The chain shake may occur if your hands suddenly change direction if your hands move into your body and then away in a "<" shape. In a boat, and ideally on an ergo, your hands should turn a small semi-circle as they approach, but not touch, the body; forming a "c" shape. This allows the handle to move at a constant velocity without a sudden change of direction, thus avoiding influences that might shake the chain.
