Pains?

Anyone get any particular pains while rowing - at least when they started? As I have stated before in previous posts, I have been rowing for about almost 3 months. In the past couple weeks I have had pain and discomfort in my right forearm. It is like a pinching/tingling pain when I am pulling back on the Drive/Finish. I don't assume this is normal. I usually only row about 3-4 times a week for about 30 min at a time at a pretty high intensity (for me). It usually happens on the second or third days of consecutive rows.

Anytime you're getting a pain in the same spot on multiple occasions, it's a potential problem. Are you perhaps gripping the bar too tightly?

Maybe the pain is from pulling too much with biceps instead of lats/traps. Imagine drawing the elbows back at the finish. Try not to bring the handle too high with forearms and biceps. Keep wrists straight at finish.

Hope that helps a little.

What Bryan said.

Try a small flare-out with the elbows at the finish, keeping the arms relaxed and grip relaxed, and as Bryan said, pretend the pull is coming from the elbows. The flare-out of the elbows at the finish will help keep your hands, wrists, and forearms more horizontal. Concentrate on keeping your arms straight and relaxed during the first part of the drive. As you do this you can feel the lats engaged. See how long you can postpone pulling with the arms.
