quick questions
ok first a little background. im 6-4, 180 freshman in college. senior year of high school i was able to pull a 6:55 2k. i started rowing on varsity in college first semester, but was feeling overwhelmed and dropped to novice, after talking with my coach and team captain. however, i had a class during practice and had to quit, this was about st the end of sept. i am planning to rejoin the team though, just sent the coach an email, and was wondering how long it would take for me to get back in shape? and the eventually improve? i tried doing a 2k the other day and, although ashamed to admit, pulled a 7:23. realistically what can i expect? thanks for the responses in advance.
I usually find that it takes me around 3 months to get in top fitness.
Having said that I usually keep myself reasonably fit with a couple of jogs, a few ergs and an odd OTW session when not aiming for anything in particular.
However, when training for a big regatta or my main regatta I will put in 4 or 5 erg sessions and get out on the water 3 or 4 times and maybe go jogging 2,3 or 4 times, all in week.
I have gone from a pitiful 07:14 for 2k erg to 6:46 in the space of 5 months and also get close to PBs OTW.
It all depends on your goals - if you want to remain novice do 3 or 4 sessions a week if you want to get in the top crew and win bust your arse! And work really hard.
Hope I dont sound to gung ho but Im trying to paint a realistic picture. You also sound like you have a good body for rowing to go well.
All the best
