A friend of mine got me interested to do the Holiday Challenge again. I've just been rowing 10 minutes slowly each morning all summer, so this gives me a chance to get back in some shape on the erg.
C2 has set targets of 100 or 200 kilometers.
"Our seventh Annual Online Holiday Challenge will start on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 23) and end at midnight on Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24). Take the challenge of your choice: row 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters!"
This is 32 days, 3125m a day for the 100k challenge, and 6250m a day for the 200k challenge.
How many of you are going for it?

My goal for the challenge is doing at least 30 minutes easy each morning.
Every few days or twice a week I'm planning to go a bit faster and farther.
So far I've rowed as follows:
40- 9221
30- 6252
62- 14300
30- 6252
30- 6252

I love the HC. Perversely, I find it more fun when I'm out of shape than when I'm already in the habit. I'm definitely not in the habit this time around, so bring it. Bonus: I'm rowing in the morning, so not only am I sore, I'm cranky from the sleep debt. Happy holidays!
40,931 so far. I plan on at least 6,250 every day, plus an extra 6,250 each on Sat/Sun to build in a cushion. I'd love to finish early. Last year I ended up doing a little over an HM on Christmas eve, which was bad news. But I do think last year's sweatshirt was worth it.

I've been averaging about a 100k per month since May. So I should make the 100k in 32 days. Even with OTW time slacking off now that race season and day light savings time have ended, I'm not sure I can bump up to a 200K; it'll be tough. A HM on Xmas Eve?!
Ducatista, you're an animal! Put the handle down a second and check out
www.gravesport.com for some Xmas toys,(albeit they're mostly Triumph type guys).

John: I thought you did thousands and thousands of meters! Didn't you do a million in the HC a couple of times, or did I get this all wrong?
I'm doing it. I've done 4 10K's and 17K this morning. I'd like to shoot for 300K, but I'm not sure I will make that. 200K should be very doable.
My best year was 2005- I needed 10,800 on the last day, did 8.8K as a warmup, and then did the last 2k in 6:58, the first (and last) time I ever went sub-7.
Last year's sweatshirt was great- I lost mine, and I'm still mad about it. Can you get a hoodie from Zazzle?
Good luck to you all!

Andrew,
You have me confused with someone else. I have done the HC 3 or 4 times but never in the millions. I do have 21.5 million meters lifetime but that has taken a little over 11 years.

Yeah I'm doing it as I normally do about 60k per week anyway (up to 80k some weeks).

Since it started after thanksgiving, I have done an hour peice (friday after thanksgiving) a 30min peice, and a 78min peice. Thats about 41,000 meters. I think I'm gonna go for it.

Andrew,
Yes I have done the million HC a couple of times, last fall in 19 days, but have backed off quite a bit since then.
I'll be happy to get the 200k this time.
This morning:
13853 meters ~ 58:40
All the best and have fun.

I'm in for the Challenge. I missed the first two days because I was out of town. Currently at 39349m.
I was bored today and made an excel spreadsheet for that extra little bit of motivation (I cant help it- I'm a geek).
If you want to track your progress on the challenge download it here:
http://subroc.net/Holiday_Challenge_2006.xls
Modify Columns A and B to suit your needs. Play around and put numbers in column A to see how the results total. Enjoy.

65k as of today. I do plenty of business travel in December. Therefore I need to push harder on the weekends to make the 200k target.

47,910 meters toward challenge as of today. Just started rowing with some regularity this fall and am finally getting the same feeling road running used to do for me.

I'm at 59k toward the goal of 200 as of last night - definitely psyched to reach the 200 but have some travel planned in December. Will have to see about guest passes to local gyms where I'll be!
