A lot of people ask questions here about slide control, rate, ratio, etc.

Make your rowing/erging look like this, and you'll be doing OK.

Very nice overall, though they are missing the catch a bit. Of course that never looks particularly bad, it just wastes a bit of opportunity for system acceleration.

Looks like they are trying to cover 10m per stroke. B)

It's a French junior crew. I think the video is from earlier this year. Not bad for a group of 16 year olds.

That style of catch seems to be more of a European thing. Considering the U.S. sculling track record vs. Europe...

Nice! I'm thinking more like 12. :P

Stomporowski, Tufte, Hacker, Villedent & Hardy, Don't catch like that, and they are European.

You aren't seriously trying to take a shot at me by mentioning the USA sculling program are you? They don't listen to me, though they probably would do well to do so.

You are right, it's not bad for 16 year olds, but if they are doing 2:05 R20 (12m/stroke) it would be a pretty fair clip. We should be seeing them at Jr Worlds, winning. :D

Hey there John Ruppy Puppy, You seem to be following me around like a little annoying dog. Be careful or it will be the rolled up newspaper on the nose for you (figuratively of course). I know it will remind you of the beatings your daddy gave you, perhaps you long for such treatment, and that is why you insist on being an irritant to everyone on the playground.

Be careful around that dog bowl, the other puppies may get jealous and bite you for stealing their food.

There's a new Dog catcher in town, and his hobby is taxidermy. B)

R20? I didn't do a proper stopwatch check on it, but I kept switching my glance from the scene to my computer clock and it certainly looked like they were getting under 3 seconds per stroke. My WAG was about 24, but that is probably on the high side. I don't know where my old stopwatch is and I don't have broadband, so it is too much of a nuisance to wait for the video to download over a telephone modem, thus I am not going to bother to check it out. Perhaps some more dedicated member might do it.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

No, I wasn't. And I don't think they have anything to learn from you.

I don't know what kind of speeds you're used to, but a Junior women's quad will average about 1:45 for a 2k, so clipping along at a 2:05 at 20 spm isn't that astounding of a feat.

Sounds good. Were you trying to point out that other Eruopeans don't catch like that either? Not sure what we are disagreeing about.

Hmm, opinions vary on who can learn from who, I suppose we can all learn from your attitude about that.

My Clubs junior girls tend to win US nationals in the 4x then split and get 1st and 2nd in the 2x's, so I suppose I'm used to speeds like that. Sure it's not great feat, but if they are doing it so easily then they should be quite good. BTW AUS Gold Medal Standard for Junior Girls 4x is 6:17 2000m, so even the 1:45 is so-so. Thanks for playing. B)

You were saying that the national team should listen to you, hence my comment. When I see 10mps become a national team training standard, then I suppose I'll have learned something from you.

I didn't say 1:45 was smoking, that was however the winning women's Junior 4x time at the national selection regatta this year. How did "your" Club junior 4x do there? And yes, the French junior national 4x is quite good, as you noticed. They made the final of the Junior World Championships this year...AUS didn't show. Thanks for playing.

Well, the gals from my club were getting a Silver Medal in the JW8+. Though getting 6th is not bad either.

Do you think I'm from AUS?

Hmm, I've probably rowed in boats faster than you, and definitely have Erged faster than you. Whether or not you think you have anything to learn from me is quite inconsequential in the larger picture. Why the overt animosity? Did I do something to you other than respond to jibes that needed a response?

The Girls row quite nicely, as you said, however they can improve their catches, adn perhaps get better than 6th. Do you have a relative in the boat, or coach it? Don't you want them to improve. I'll bet they didn't even get 10mps during their race, so what good is a lot of practice at the 12mps that you say is happening in the video. I can do what they were doing, in a M2x, but it's not going to be a major part of the OTW training, and definitely not part of the Ergo TRAINING.

BTW - A rower I began coaching as a complete novice 4 years ago, just won the Head of the Charles. Another just set the British Mile record on the Ergo, and another Holds the Ergo WR in their class. So insult away, it's been a nice week.

Educated guess. Perhaps "definitely" was a bit strong, but I'd put the odds at 99.9%. Would you feel better about "more than likely"?
