Training program and heart rate

I have been following the
'C2 Interactive Training Programme'
for 8 weeks.
From the beginning my heartrate was way to high compared to what it says in the program. It still is.
For instance:
My maxpuls: 195
AT according to programme is 80-85%= 160
My heart rate goes above that after a short while and before I finish it will be above 180.
Should I ignore this and just go on or should I slow down to the slowest speed (towards the upper limit of UT1)?

This topic has been discussed several times recently on the UK forum, and you might want to search there.

Having said that, three points:

1) Many people have had the same experience you have using the IP. Their HRs exceed the target when working at recommended IP paces.

2) As you note, the target "pace" w/in a training band is actually a range. There's nothing wrong w/ starting at the slower end of the spectrum recommended for a specific 2k time and speeding up over time as fitness improves.

3) Some people say, "Stick to the pace, no matter what the HR is." Others say, "Don't let HR go above the recommended level. Reduce pace if necessary." The problem in deciding what to do is that there are smart and fast people in both camps.

You'll have to decide what's best for you.
