Slides OK for ranking times?

Post by UncleDavey » June 21st, 2006, 2:20 pm

Hi all,

Is there a rule that allows or disallows the use of slides for the online ranking? I would assume that if they are not allowed for the CRASH-B's then they should not be used for the ranking. In my (so far) brief erging experience, I find I can definitely maintain a higher rate, and also get a better "low pull" when using the slides, although I have not yet done a 2K time trial on them.

Thanks in advance for any insight, and I apologize if this has been asked before, but I could not find an answer.

Dave

Dave,

Even though times on slides are quite a bit faster, C2 says it is fine to go ahead and enter your slide times in the rankings.

There are a number of rowers who already do this, for example one in particular who is 2 years younger than me.

It would be nice if C2 would indicate in the rankings which times were done by slides and which were on the regular erg but so far they have not done this. My guess is that it will be a cold day in hell when they do.

In any case, others already enter slide times, so go ahead and enter yours too.

Dave,

What low pull did you get on the slides vs the erg?

Rankings can be done on slides, but according to the rankings page (http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/rankings.asp):

"World Record Times
All 2000 meter record-breaking times must be rowed at a Concept2 sanctioned indoor rowing event with witnesses present. In addition all 2000 meter record-breaking times must be rowed on Concept2 Indoor Rowers without Slides. "

So, just don't do a world record on the slides and you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The thread on the General forum is very informative.

John, I think I hit a 1:36 low pull on slides, but without slides I only can get to about the low 1:40's. I am 46, LWT, 5'10", 155 lbs., and I'm sure my technique is not perfect...

Thanks again everyone.
