I am New to the Rowing World and use a concept rower at 24 hour fitness. I'd like to begin logging my rows in, but am not quite sure how to use that form. For 500 meters I have been averaging 2:50 - what does that mean..Also, I like to row straight through, keeping my heart rate up and recently have been rowing for 30 minutes at a time. I am a cyclist, normally, and also have been crosstraining w/weights and Pilates and Yoga. I want to get into shape for a sculling camp out in Vermont in September. Please advise.......where do I find out how many total meters I row?

Hey Deb,
Welcome to this unique world. Your question reminds me of my first few days on an erg a few years back when I wondered what happened to all the numbers from 1:60 to 1:99. The display you see is the minutes:seconds it would take you to row 500 meters. Please just experiment with the buttons on the monitor. One will scroll through different displays, one which will show total meters rowed. You also have the option of setting the meters that you wish to row for the session, and then viewing total time when finished. I'm not sure what's confusing about the online form. Pretty much enter what it asks for (distance and time it took) and it will add a line for each entry and keep a total. Meters include every erg meter rowed whether warmup, cooldown, or body of workout.
Please do invest some time searching around the site for all the resources available. Erg monitor manuals are there, and please study the technique tutorials carefully. There is little that is more painful, or entertaining depending on ones mood, than watching the vast variety of techniques seen at fitness centers by those who obviously have no training. Their experience is usually short lived, or at best very inefficient and un-fun. This tool is not nearly as mindless as hopping on a treadmill or stationary bike, and just going. But when done right, everyone here will agree it beats them hands down for lots of reasons.
Best wishes for getting going, and have a great time at that sculling camp. They'll set your technique straight there if you haven't gotten it yet.
