BikeErg or RowErg alongside 3x week strength training?

I do 3x/wk strength training which is mainly large compound movements (squat, deadlift, etc).

I currently have a RowErg, which I use on non-lifting days as conditioning.

I notice I'm sometimes a little tired / lazy with form on the RowErg and will feel some low back tiredness (never pain, just some fatigue).

I'm considering if a BikeErg may be a better fit for my use. My main desire for my conditioning workouts is just to be able to get some low intensity Zone 2 style training and MAYBE some HIIT.

Would appreciate any input / experiences!

Also 3 gym sessions per week and ca. 60-70k on the rower on the other days.
I tend to reduce the drag and work with speed rather than power. This takes load from the back and recovery is fine, at least it works for me.
Regarding bike I cannot give any inputs, don't use one. But I could imagine it is much softer on the back, as only legs are working.

I also don't use bikeerg, but I'm assuming that it might be a better option for your purposes

Sascha & Stu give good advice. Bottom line, you need to think of your erging days as active rest & not be trying to "push" yourself. We ergers, in general, are apt to be too aggressive.

Heavy compound lifts are super stressful! Go easier on your rest days, and your condition will improve.

Oh, and welcome to the campfire.

I am back to doing a fair amount of dedicated strength work as I have a few things I want to check off this year that are strength related. The RowErg is my predominant cardio / endurance modality. I have not used a BikeErg so I cannot comment specifically on using it for Z2 or even harder intensity training.

How long have you been using a RowErg for conditioning? About how many meters are you doing per session or weekly?
