No wonder there are so many Polar posts here! Just went to their Chat which I assumed would be a robot and even the robot, if Isidora is a robot, has joined the chat and taken 10 mins without even acknowledging my question.
I hope it is a simple one, the FT1 has a chest strap and all works fine. However I just tried to use the stopwatch without the strap and cannot get to that screen. Is it the case that we cannot use a FT1 W without wearing the strap

Wow! A blast from the past. I thought I was the only person who still had an FT1. But to be honest, I don't use it much any more, because my Garmin supercededs it.
Anyway, on my FT1 if you push the button, after trying and failing to find a heart monitor, it shows a timer. When you hit the button again, it cancels the timer. So not a stopwatch, but something. You can't (so far as I know) switch modes becauses that requires you bring the transmitter to the FT1.

Thanks Mate so simple when you know how. Just now Polar sent me an email.............
Hi Brian,
Thank you very much for the nice chatting earlier and your patience so far.
The stopwatch cannot be used without wearing the heart rate sensor:

I once had one made by a firm called BHIP which lasted me about 25 years. Even saw a new BHIP online a few weeks back but by the time I went to buy it had gone. BTW anyone buying an FT1 the battery can only be removed from the transmitter with a breadknife
