When you're doing 30 r20, or a similar rate capped workout, how can you keep track of your average rate during the piece?

PM5 can show average pace through the whole piece.

Thanks, but I was wondering if you could get a display of average stroke rate throughout the piece.

ErgData has option to show at least stroke counter. Can't remember if it showing it by default or if you have to enable it by pressing one of those little "panels" to choose what metric you prefer.
ErgometerSpace is able to show both stroke counter and "exact" average stroke rate of your workout, though i have noticed it sometimes is off by +/-0.1 strokes, showing 20.1/19.9 when stroke count/duration indicates flat 20.
For almost for all my sessions i use both ErgData (on android phone, bluetooth connection) and ErgometerSpace (on Windows laptop, via printer cable)

Ah ok, ergdata has no such option, but on any r20 it's very easy to stay on track with pull every 3s or check stroke counter every minute a multiple of 20.
Under high load/stress this might not be the most valuable option

My maths is rubbish in normal circumstances, never mind when I'm breathing through my ears

Yep, another massive vote for Ergzone

When I originally posted this question, I had a feeling an app would be involved - pity it's one I don't use. Yet.

I didn’t use it for years. Started a few months ago and haven’t looked back. It’s night-and-day vs ErgData (and it still syncs with that in any event).

I can't remember how long I've been using Ergzone (definitely since 2021, maybe 2020), and I've not used Ergdata since so I can't say how different it is, so it's interesting to hear that it's that much of a difference.

Is this statement relating to old or new ergdata version? They are quite different, and I would really have no idea what an app could provide more than ergdata already does?
I'm not talking about added competitions from ergzone or such things, only the functional part.

I stopped using ErgData about 3 months ago, but I’m not sure if I was using the old or new version (and in either case it’s very possible I wasn’t using it correctly). As for ErgZone, and subject to the caveat above, I personally perceive three principal advantages: (i) more data options
https://help.erg.zone/article/56-metrics; (ii) a better data interface to display more of those data options
https://help.erg.zone/article/231-app-grid-view; and (iii) increased flexibility to set specific workouts- for example with unequal splits. A good example of the flexibility that comes up in here is the 100k. As far as I know the PM5 and ErgData only permit a 100k as a straight single distance piece. In ErgZone you could program it how you want - and it offers 20x5k splits as a ready made option.

Is it possible to ‘just row’ using ErgZone, just like ergdata offers?

ErgData works great it allows you to do 600 strokes +/- 5 without much effort.
Just watch the 10 min markers, 200, then 400 and stay on track.
