Custom 2k training plan: Indoor Sports Services

Post by mangabootoo » September 19th, 2022, 11:09 am

Hi,

I used to use the brilliant interactive training programme tool on this website...they then removed it and never brought it back...despite saying they would. It was great because it tailored training to your best 2k time.

https://www.indoorsportservices.co.uk/training

I've never come across anything as good since...or does anyone have any other great training plans that are customised to your stats??

Thanks

There are many old posts on this topic, including by the moderator DL who saved the files. Not sure where. All tough so no wish to use them any more, but have some xl copies at Levels 2 and 3.

Google Wolverine plan (ignore anything to do with Hugh Jackman). This can be customised to your current 2k time with the paces for the different levels easy to calculate. L4 looks daunting when reading about it but once you do it it becomes quite easy to work out.

Indoor Sports Services ‘interactives’ are no longer available after the restructuring of their business model (circa 2016-19). Best goto if you want the original or interactive 2k plans or the preset marathon training material is: The Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Guide, Version 2, O’Neill & Skelton. [out of print]

The structured 2k training is all there indexed by self-assessed “athlete level” and workouts per week but absent the online questionnaire. Also, a 2KTT pacing guide indexed to current 2k and anticipated rating. So really still available minus the personalization promised by filling in a couple fields. All that bit of code did was link to serial pages from the paper and ink Guide.

Pete Marston’s “Lunchtime Plan’ has helped many ergoists prep for 2k distance TT or comp. Prescribed workout content/schedule remarkably similar to Levels 1,2,3 in Mike Caviston's “Wolverine Plan” (think UMich) but minus the L4 sequences.

The Wolverine L4 work was very effective.

For a 7 minute 2k it wanted a 10W stroke in training (such as 2:03 at 20).

For 6 minutes, 15W (1:45 at 20).
