Testicles getting scrunched

I have a problem....during the catch. My testicles get squeezed between my legs. I keep having pauses during my workout and have to 'adjust'.

Am I the only one? Is this normal? Is my form wrong?

Might be a clothing malfunction. I would suggest the old standby of an athletic supporter to control "the boys".

It happens every now and then, but using the correct shorts will most definitely help, or as suggested above an athletic supporter. You could try some rowing shorts (called "trou" by some).

There are many options out there, but I get most of mine from these guys:

I started rowing early Feb after a decade pause. My jock straps were dry rotted. The rubber just fell apart in the waist band. Looked locally and they were something like $20.00 each. My wife couldn't see paying that and ended up buying these Hanes 95% cotton 5% Spandex briefs. They really work great for me, and much cheaper than multiple jock straps. https://www.hanes.com/usbfa6.html

Well, at least I'm consistent in my recommendations for shorts suppliers...

Maybe in your Norm Lovett incarnation?

As a mental health professional, you are probably the only one able to help us with the mental trauma induced here, while maintaining some objectivity. For us men, its just the thougt, just the thought that hurts...

Yes I think Hol norm, would have understood, but as things stand how do you stop the happy sacks from being crunched, I was trying to imagine the suffering inflicted when I was rowing this afternoon... Is it possible to trap them between the runner and the seat or do you all wear cricket boxes just in case.

Does any one else remember the bobbit case?, general area different anatomy.
I once looked after a gentleman who had removed his testicle, because he was disturbed by what he described as unclean thoughts.
Everytime I discussed the case with male colleagues, a kind of grimace, followed by leg crossing behaviour occurred, so I guess it's a painful beyond belief activity....

Thank you for describing such a scenario, it hurts when I even think of it. That will be the only check on a newly created checklist before I start rowing....

I guess describing it to male collegues will make it a fun experience though.

Now that I am done wincing in sympathy have you tried cycling shorts or better yet bibs. When I bike I prefer the bibs because they stay in place better with less constriction in the waist area. The spandex keeps things snugged up and the chamois provides a little extra padding in the seat area. If your boys were hanging so low that it would be crushed by the rollers under the seat the biking shorts would definitely help. I hope that you come up with a workable solution so you can row without pain. If the support solutions don't work you may need to see if you have varicose veins in that area that can cause pain, typically confirmed by an ultrasound exam. Good luck.......

Yes, the tighter/stretch undergarment helps a lot with this. I used to call them “bike shorts” although that’s probably not right. I have larger thighs and hated the feeling of them rubbing when I ran, so the shorts solved that. Haven’t been running in a while, but when I started rowing and experienced the “crunch at the catch,” I got them back out and the extra support definitely helps!

Anything that comfortably keeps them up out of the danger zone would be worth a shot!
