First I would like to say Hello . I am from USA NJ .
I just received a new concept 2 from Rogue . I did a couple of small sessions to get started and practice my form . Yesterday did a 5000 meter which took me just under 30 minutes which I know is bad . I am 65 and my wife 62 and both a little heavy and out of shape but not terrible . My wife has done a couple of ten minute sessions . We love the machine any advice welcome . I have already learned a lot on this forum and only been member for couple of days . Still trying to figure out pm 5 but starting to get it . My goal i guess would be 10000 m . We will see . How often should we use machine in beginning every day , 3 days a week ?

Thank You

Welcome to the forum. I'd not recommend using it every day to start with, but you may build up to it. A few days a week will be good to start with as your muscles, and more importantly tendons and ligaments, need to adjust to the movement and effort.

Start slowly, watch as many technique videos as possible (YouTube have loads), learn about drag factor, stroke rate and 'effort levels'. Good luck with it.

Do not be too concerned about time as you start up. Focus more on your form and watch the various on line videos that are available. If you can find a local rower great. I am 70, 6' 7'', about 300 pounds, and have been very physically active my entire life, but time and some medical issues caught up to me. After getting medically released, I started with an aim for 2,000 meters per row 3-4 times a week and compared with others in my age group I was in the lowest 10%. After awhile I started adding 10 hard pulls every 500 meters. Over a month, I added 1,000 meters per row at 3-4 rows a week with 20 hard pulls every 500 meters. Eventually getting to 5,000 meters at a setting. I stayed at 5,000 and focused on time. Now I am hitting 23-24 minutes (roughly 2:24 pace) which is about the 50 percentile for ranked outcomes for my age group. If that is too slow, OK, I'll just keep rowing. Other times I simply row 45-60 minutes using sweat as the effort indicator. My target now is 7,500 meters 4-5 times a week at 2:20 pace. Just did 123,000 meters in the August summer challenge. My aim is to get to 250 pounds and hit the Million meter mark. Find what works for you. That competitive urge for maximum performance will kick in at some point, just be aware of it.

Welcome!

As other have stated just start slowly and build your time/distance gradually and really get your form down. Once you start getting accustom to it all you will make big improvements and hopefully enjoy the process.

Welcome!!!

If your potential goal is a 10k and you can do a 5k without overexerting yourself, perhaps you'd like to do the Pete Plan for Beginners. That's what I did when I started rowing and what I'm doing now (see link from Citroen) for the SkiErg.

Also, as you can see from the plan below, it's a gradual plan (26 weeks) that gets you from 5k to 12k. It's only 3 days a week with 2 optional sessions.

welcome and good luck with your rowing journey. I hope you and your wife enjoy it and get plenty of enjoyment, fitness and health benefits from it.

I also wouldn't worry too much about times immediately. focus on your stroke and your breathing and then just get started and learn and develop and improve as you go

Welcome ES,

If you've checked out the forum they you've seen lots of good advice.

One thing I'd add - don't try to do too much too quickly - that's asking for problems that are best avoided by taking it easy.

Your body will do best if you increase your effort and distances gradually.

Good Luck
