The pad is usually only used for longer training pieces rather than at the races but you are allowed to use if you want to. It makes no difference at all to pace. Most don't use the pad for races as not needed over 2ks but maybe some do to prevent slips on the 500.

I have never used a proper seat pad, as all I have occasionally used is a few pieces of cut up yoga mat in a pillow case BUT whenever I have tried to go faster, eg sprint at the end of long session, I have managed to come off the seat a few times.

I assume as it raises you up a little bit it changes your centre of gravity and keeping the chain & handle lower to compensate is really important.

I use a pad made of an old camping sleeping mat. Never had a problem with it slipping. I don't think a thin pad like the C2 version will negatively affect your pace. May actually improve it since you will be more comfortable on your sit bones.

The only problem I've had with it is remembering it when I go to the races!

I've been using this Hornet watersports seat cushion for the past 2 years. It's held up nicely and has no effect on performance. I believe it was recommended by Dark Horse Rowing.
