Need help with motivation in lockdown
I’m not sure if this was the right place to post but oh well.
Anyone got any advice to keep me motivated during an erg whilst in lockdown? Even during a short interval piece- I just give up in the middle of it and think to myself ‘what’s the point?’ yet afterwards I just feel like I want to kick myself. I’m a 16 year old rower and have been rowing since I was 12/13. And my 2k time is 7:15 to get a perspective.

I've been rowing along with some youtubers lately either via livestreams or videos.
Darkhorserowing for one, and this guy

I can keep up motivation fairly ok without the need but it's something that has recently added some spice to things working out to other peoples rowing sessions. Who knows it might get me fitter

Re: Need help with motivation in lockdown
Consider having a goal or following an organized plan (Pete plan for example). This will give you something to work towards and/or complete which should help drive your internal motivation.
Is there a personal best time for a distance you want to try and beat? You've got a good 2k time. What is your 5k time or your best distance for 30 minutes? Have you ever done a half or full marathon? Maybe set a goal and a training plan for one of those distances.
Do you have Rowpro? Online rowing is a lot of fun and has seen an explosion of interest during this pandemic as many are home and rowing without camaraderie.

Concept 2 recently posted this list of videos to row along to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... llLJHT83BW.
I've done a couple. The Go Row Indoor by British Rowing are good.
If you are a cyclist, there are some great cycling workout videos that work just as well on the erg. Here is a tough one with great scenery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-PtoEx ... =2&t=1423s.
I've been challenging my club mates to various things, like virtually rowing from our launch point to some far destination, or a timed 10K piece for yesterday's Earth Day Challenge.
Get creative, stay healthy!

Re: Need help with motivation in lockdown
in lack of those scenery videos (there are many for cyclists - while for rowers there were nearly zero) I made some myself.
Maybe you want to check them out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9wc-B ... py5LkaixBA?

Do you have any specific targets?
Maybe try following the Pete Plan and look for a specific target of maybe getting to sub 7' 2km.

Motivation comes from within, so it needs to be something you want. Post your results and targets on here and you will feel accountable.
Good Luck

Discipline and motivation are different. Are you sure of which one you lack at 16? But, I guess just imagine how much better you will be than the others that just give up.

Re: Need help with motivation in lockdown
We've just started a new season, so you've got all your ranking pieces to do and see how you compare with others in your age group.
Instead of thinking how terrible the lockdown is, try thinking of it as opportunity - opportunity to row more, see where you are, set goals and go for them.
Join a team, participate in the monthly challenges.
Sometimes you don't want to pressure yourself to beat a target, just get on and row for metres, technique focus, podcast or music on headset, zone in to a groove and just row.
Chill, enjoy, it'll be ok
