Carnivore rowing

Post by Shawn Baker » March 1st, 2019, 5:47 pm

Thoughts

I won 500m 50 + class at WIRC as strict carnivore

John Lund, also now Carnivore won 40+ 500m at same

US National team member Mike Clougher has been on Carnivore diet for 1 year and has the best erg on the US team- he was on pace for a 5:44 2k but just blew up over last 200m- it would have been a 5 sec PR (likely just was a bit too aggressive, but shows you can train on a national trowung team without carbohydrates

... seemingly, in defiance of metabolic science, if he in fact eschewed carbs. But then again perhaps his body keeps up carbo stores through an alternative pathway.

Interesting. I actually have been eating more carbs over the past year as I have rowed more otherwise I seem to get thinner than I want. I still eat a lot of protein and used to really limit carbs but have had more recently. Of course I eat a lot of leaner protein and I think carnivore promotes more fat, so maybe that would replace the carbs?

My concern with the carnivore diet is the vitamin/nutrition side of things. Seems like you'd have to eat organ meat very often, or take side supplements... Just hoping there's some smart vitamin and micronutrient diversity in a diet like this.

Congratulations on your sprint win!

Well done Shawn! Been following your instagram...lots of great information and research debunking a lot of what we have been taught over the past several decades. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching.

Since the OP has completely failed to declare an interest in the fact that he is involved in a company that promotes this diet at a significant charge for his consultation I'm going to lock this thread.
