Do You Train In Front Of A Mirror??

I have always...when and where I was able to...saddled up on my old model B and rowed in front of a mirror...

My current gym has two model D's...no mirror nearby with those units...but I still use them on occasion...

But at home my B is about 5 feet from a full length reflective device...

Consider this my little survey...mirror?....yes or no...

A very firm 'no' from me.
Horrifying thought.

Mirror to the side to check posture, arms, reach and layback every so often.

Back when I was first learning to row, my form was lousy, as usual. I set up a mirror on one side and a piece of plywood with the proper angles for layback and catch marked on the other side. In the days before instant video feedback, it worked great at improving my technique. Haven't done it for decades now, however, but I still sometimes set my iPhone up and video myself, just as a check.

Yes...mirror front/side/back. But having gone to the trouble to set up the room like that, I tend to stare at the PM rather than at anything being reflected. Useful for the occasional check on form though - nice to be able to verify that I still do it all wrong.

I did this once with a member of the Austrian national team right next to me.
It showed me how pathetic I was. Better not to know.

Now that is funny - I usually don't have any qualms about doing it all wrong - that's my style!

Not in front. But in profile, yes.
Nothing deliberate, the mirror was there before the current c2 placement.
I do use it to check back /shoulders.

I learned to row (on an erg, that is) at Xeno Muller's Iron Oarsman (his now closed indoor rowing studio in Costa Mesa, CA). Row of ergs sitting in front of a mirror. Xeno would sit on the middle erg as he conducted workouts, so you could watch and try to model your stroke on his.

Very helpful.
