Does anyone flip the screen up during rowing

Once I have set my pace and settled into my rhythm, I simply cant watch the screen and have to flip it up. Does anyone else do this?

I am generally a long distance rower, so if I'm rowing 7.5km I'll let 5 or 6 songs pass and put it down again. Then I should be done.

I don't do it, but I've seen people that do. In high school the coach would sometimes cover part of the screen with tape so all you could see was stroke rate and time. Whatever helps you get through the workout!

No, I like feedback and to play with the numbers. Sometimes I will distract myself by not looking at the monitor but that's only during sessions where the pace is largely unimportant e.g. longer, easy rows more aimed at keeping volume up.

The erg is one of the most precise exercise tools you can get, with many of the sessions (which are invariably very precisely worked out) I can't see why you wouldn't want feedback unless numbers psyche you out and you prefer to go on feel. This works for some.

All the time or I cover the monitor with tape, towel, etc. The only thing I leave visible is stroke rate, but it usually doesn't vary much on my long rows.

I rowed with eyes closed a few times... but then I never seem to get as far as I think :)

I frequently do this on my long rows, except I just cover the PM with a towel. I also tend to count the songs played on my ipod until I think I've covered 10km.

I have to watch the force curve to keep my stroke in shape. For longer pieces I generally watch TV, so I'm paying less attention to the monitor.

I hate not having the screen. We once did a novel 2km 'test' at my uni club. All of our screens were flipped up (and being watched by other squad members) and we had to all row in rhythm, with our stroke man at the end and setting the cadence for approx 1750m but at that point each person got told how long they had left and then went free rate to bring it home.

I ended up with probably my neatest ever negative splits of exactly N.. N-1... N-2.. N-3. I usually aim to time my 2ks as such 2,3,4,1 in rank of quickest 500m.. So it was an interesting experience doing negative splits by accident..

I would find it a nightmare if i flipped up the screen during a row haha. I tend to like being very focused a lot on my splits and rate in the sessions, in order to keep good consistency too :)
