What aspect of your erging do you plan to focus on this coming year? I will reach my one year anniversary on the erg in March - my main point of emphasis will be on better rowing technique - then upping my distance!

It's normal to save that question for the end of April. The indoor rowing season isn't aligned with the turn of the year, it runs from 1st May to 30th April. Remember that the ergo was invented to provide a training aid during the winter when rowing on wet things wasn't possible.

to get faster...I think improving at the longer distances will be distinctly possible and I'm hoping it will carry over somewhat to the shorter stuff (2K/5K). At some point I'd like to have a force curve which looks a tad more orthodox i.e. I will try to work on leg drive. I'd also like to get up to 75kg by putting on some muscle. Finally, I'd like to stay healthy because I've already seen how that can scupper things in the short term - and where's the fun in that?
Targets are in my sig but also include >8150m for 30mins, >15800m for 60mins, HM say 1:20:xx - I think all those are kinda inline with sub18 and sub37 for me. Right now, not interested in the 2K distance, or less.

still have this seasons targets to achieve before may.
sub 18:00 5k (SB 18:05)
sub 37:00 10k (done 36:45)
sub 1:20:00 HM (SB 1:20:10)
sub 2:46:45 -2:00/500 pace FM (SB 2:52:21 / 2:02)
100 HM's (88 completed)
if they dont fall - they will be next years goals. they are all kind of "round" numbers to achieve - make the goals more intresting -plus they are doable...
Goals should always be SMART

specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time bound....

For me my year starts after the BRIC in three weeks, so I have been thinking of what comes next.
Get space for my own erg.
Enter some more races, I haven't found any local ones, but I may enter the EIRC up in Manchester and make a weekend of it with my wife.
Disassemble and reassemble my technique.
Build up to rowing a HM at a reasonable pace (sub 1:30.00 / 2:08 pace)
Continue to follow a training routine, but I need to decide which one...

Remember, not everyone cares about rowing OTW and erging is actually a year round activity.

I hope so, it would seem daft to spend the best part of three hours and not give it 100%

I'm hoping to break 3:20 for 1k in February.
I'll spend the Spring and Summer doing little on the erg but will surely put in plenty of lazy, indiscriminate miles on the bike and perhaps do some half-hearted and, for me, unprecedented big-lifting at the gym.
After all that hard work a 3:15 1k should be a given when I return in earnest to the erg in the Autumn. A 500m of c.1:30 would be super too.

The erg season is still May 1 - April 30 - as defined by the company. The Online records are based on it. The high point of the erg season is the WIRC event which is in February. March and April are sort of mop up and aftermath times. OTW or not, there are plenty of ergers that make a new start in May, just like their Logbooks.

I'm working hard towards a sub 7 2k, 2017 should be the year it's going to happen at my current rate of development.

I have no real plans - except to wake up every morning, check I'm still here and to be breathing.

My plan for 2017 is to train smart on the erg, to maintain a good interest and keep my motivation levels up for it.
Staying motivated & interested in things is something i have battled with most of my life, i'm hoping to change that this time around.
Another goal/plan is to better my current 2k PB at some point next year.
