aching hands

Been erging for nearly 3 months now, 5 days a week, 10K a day, recently introduced half-marathons as well (1-2/week).

The thing is, though not really bad, I do find that my hands, in particular my finger joints get pretty achy. I usually erg in the evening, but the ache is only felt when I wake up in the morning! It then goes after 5 mins or so and my hands feel fine for the rest of the day. I'm 100% sure that this is due to the erging as it's too much of a co-incidence. I start my rows by using my hands as hooks, not gripping the 'oar' too tightly, but towards the end of the row I find my hands are often wrapped around the 'oar' more - but I am not gripping tightly.
This isn't a major issue at all, but it is a bit weird and I'd rather prevent it if pos. Any one else had this? Any ideas?

28 + I use setting 5 resistance. Also I hadn't really done much exercise for about 5 years before this!

I had some aching in the hands like this when I switched from C to D handle. It stopped happening eventually, but I don't remember the timeframe.

I had the same problem last year. I had a light grip as well. My problem was I held the handle too far at the end of my fingers. Moving the handle back slightly, toward the palms, solved the problem. I shortned my hooks so to speak.

Solution is anecdotal and may not help you at all. :)

sore hands

I also suffer from sore hands. I recently switched from the Model C handle to the Model D handle...thinking that would improve things. In fact, it made it worse. I have more soreness in my hands now after the switch. Going back to the Model C handle now.

Which handle do you use?

I find that a lighter grip on the handle and wiggling the fingers now and then throughout the row helps to lessen the pain.

I think I am going to try gloves....(weight lifting style) Some members mentioned that it helped them in the past forum..

I use the C handle (straight wood one). But I don't get any aches when erging or after - only for literally a couple of mins when I wake up in the morning! It's pretty weird to say the least (see my other post).

The aches are in my finger joints, but it's not that uncomfortable and hardly lasts for any time - but it is strange though.

I'm hoping over time it'll go...
