How do you guys eat/drink while on the machine or in a boat? As a runner I'm used to carrying all my gear on my back and being able to eat/drink while running.

yep, definitely a newb question.

On the machine, you can have whatever you need along side of you. If it is no more than 90 minutes or so you shouldn't need anything. For longer stuff on a machine, check out marathons, 100k rows, and 24 hour rows to find tips on drinking and eating on the long stuff.

In a boat, you can carry enough for a morning or afternoon outing. If it is a long race, with escort boats, the escort crew can toss stuff to you that has something to keep it afloat. On the really long stuff, think trans-oceanic, you have to stock all your food in a boat specially designed for that purpose. For water, you have to spend part of the time pumping on a desalinator, unless you have enough solar cell power to run the desalinator.
