2K improvements for a newbie?

Post by Lisa Simpson » March 16th, 2006, 3:26 pm

Nine weeks ago I started a structured periodized row/spin program, after a few years on the couch. I'm a 38 y.o. female, carrying around about 40 extra pounds.

I did my first timed 2K in class last week, and rowed 8:13.6. I'm signing up for the next rotation, so my question is, in 10 weeks, would it be possible to get my 2K down below 8:00?

Thanks much! Who knew the damn erg was so addictive...

Lisa,

Glad your enjoying the indoor rowing. The erg IS adicting, isn't it? I guess everyone is different, but based on your first time trial, I'd bet you'll see sub 8 min in those 10 weeks.

I'm a bit younger, but I was also at least 40 lbs heavy when I started erging last June. My first 2k attempt was 8:17 and I got under 8 min in three months of casual erging. Another 4 months of more structured training with help from Paul Smith, and I was able to get down to 7:37.

But no matter what your actual times or goals, you should be commended for getting active! I know it's sure made me feel better.
