Doctor says can't use my erg, SkiErg an alternative?

Post by mshaffer » December 1st, 2011, 9:24 pm

Hi, I just had a pilonidal cyst removed from my tailbone. I haven't been able to use my erg for 4 weeks and my doctor says I have to wait at least a couple months before using the erg. I'm gaining weight fast and getting out of shape. The erg is the only thing that really gives me a good workout. I was thinking, do you think the SkiErg might give me the same workout as the erg without putting pressure on my tailbone? I need cardio now....

Perhaps try modifying your diet, i.e. don't eat so much. Losing and gaining weight is largely dependent on what you put in your mouth and your general level of daily activity, rather than short bouts of cardio exercise in which you might engage a few times a week.

Running, walking, elliptical, spinning,...there are a ton of other exercises that you could do without the need to sit on your tailbone. And done with intensity they can all give you a great workout.

I own both rower and skier. I think you'll be happy with the Skierg because it is the same quality, price, and warranty as the rower.

The standing workout is a nice change from the rower. I like to do it after work where I site all day.

I don't think the Skierg provides as much of workout as the rower because it does not engage the legs as much. It is a much different workout, more uppoer body, more abs. It also complements the rower nicely working different muscles. It does raise the HR very well.

Here's Biorow's take "Using Concept2 Skierg for cross training in rowing."

As mentioned in another reply, diet is important. Time to start working on eating as healthy and nutritous a diet as possible. Plenty of veggies, salads, lean meats, fish, etc. A nutritous breakfast is the easy way to start.
