Race pace prediction charts
Does anyone know of any prediction charts that predict your race pace potential for a predicted race based on an actual race at another distance, if fully trained for the predicted race? Here is an example from the running world:

Glad you asked Flo ... I was wondering if there was a "McMillan for rowing" as well (I'm a runner).

The calculations in your post are amazingly accurate for me. My 500 metre time is a little faster than expected but everything else is bang on.

That Paul's law is based on the 500M which the pace predictor on the free spirits website that uses two of your PB's spaced as far appart as possible tells you NOT to use the 500m as one of your PB's in the calculation.I find this far more accurate.BradL wrote:Snowleopard,

I guess it depends alot on the individual (power vs stamina balance) but at the moment the Paul's Law is way out for me, it would have me believe I can do a 6:24 2K which I know there is no way I can do at the moment and a 6:40 is the goal.

As I remember it, Paul Smith did not postulate this as a predictive tool, but rather as as measure of relative strength and endurance - as you said, "power versus stamina balance". If your time on a long distance piece is longer than the Paul's law time, it is an indication that you need to work on your endurance and vice versa. Thus it was intended as a training guide - not a predictor.Carl Watts wrote:

As a guide to training it told me something I already knew. My short distance/power is much better than my long distance/endurance, but as for lining up my 1000m to 10000m (which is as far as have ever rowed) the times are pretty consistent to my best effort.

When I did a 6:59 2K in 2006 my 10K was 37:56. (2006 was my best year, I've been too lazy since then to train hard enough to row any new PBs.)

Yes my 10k is very slow. I have only rowed it one time and that was when I first started rowing three months ago. I feel like all my times are probably a little better than the table shows. I have lifted weights for thirty years and so my short distance pulls are pretty good, but I am actually training my cardiovascular system for the first time in a long time. Every time I row I am improving, and the most room for improvement is in my longer distances. I am going to rerow all my rows in the next month or so and see how much I have improved in the last couple months. My biggest problem with the longer rows seems to be lack of focus. Also, I have to admit my low pull of 1:13 is from a concept 2 I have only used one time. I have never seen lower than 1:15 other wise.
