When a training forum is no longer interested in orderly training, it not only serves no productive purpose.
It is dangerously misinformed/misguided.

In the meantime: Ever consider using more conventional training methods? Ones that allow others, mere mortals, to race on fewer claimed meters of training??
In relation to that:
I've been wondering if you've ever found someone stupid enough to attempt to do what you say you are doing in these endless posts. Posts that never include ordinary parameters of distance/time/& rate of uninterrupted work.
Do you know that on my mundane erg training I've rowed in the mid 6:50's twice this year w/o all the build up and fol-de-rol you exhibit. You've done one 7:0x. Sort of weak for you, isn't it? Haven't you been well? I haven't either. Won't complain though. It the erger's HTFU code...
Anyways, back to business... I guess it's the erg scores that matter the most on these pages.
What are yours from Sept 2010-2011? Done any timed pieces? ANY?

I suppose you're not going to be doing your bobble head routine in Boston for what is now the 7th (?) straight year. Enjoy your tripeing (I mean) typing, instead. I'd still like to see a youtube demo of you actually ding whatever spi you say you're "happy with" for an uninterrupted 2k erg piece...

i put in another 20K of my sub-threshold "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" rowing at 26 spm, 12.7 SPI, and a 3.6-to-1 ratio this morning.mikvan52 wrote:Enjoy your tripeing (I mean) typing
This rowing continues to feel better and better, as I learn to relax more and more and work out inconsistencies in my technique.
I'll be pushing that 20K to 40K over the next month or so.
I am delighted with these developments.
1:42 is faster than you can row for 2K at 9 SPI and 36 spm in a 1-to-1 ratio.
It helps your training plans to be able to recognize real tripe when you run into it.
There is just no reason at all to spend hundred of hours on the erg, as you do, training yourself to be bad.

The reasons are many, but what's that got to do with you essentially DNS'ing an entire racing season this year?
For what it's worth, I set a goal of beating my PB from 11 years ago, back in my rowing days, and reached it. On only 3 months of erg-specific training. If you need any tips, let me know!

But that doesn't have much at all to do with what I am doing.
The goal I have set for myself to be a dozen seconds better than I was when I did my WR rows back in 2003.
As far as I can tell, so far, my training is right on target.

Liar. When you stepped off the erg this morning, your monitor did not read 20000m - 26spm - 01:08:00 or anything close.

If you wanted to row at WR levels for your age and weight, the first thing to do would be to spend three or four hours a day for a few years on your general fitness.
Then, you would need to spend a few years at low rates working on technique in order to raise your natural stroking power to (at least) 16 SPI.
Then, you would need to spend a few years working up your distance rowing until you could do 18.5K for 60min.
Then!
Then!
You could sharpen and race and be ready to try to hit your 2K target.

I'll also post some videos of my technique now, to see what you think, along with some videos of my force currve during this rowing, so you can check that out, too.

What seems to be assumed, but can't be, though, is that rowing of this sort is just a momentary performance, rather than the result of a long training process.
Ridiculous stuff.
Any distance rowing of this sort by a 60s lwt, of necessity, must be preceded by _years_ of work on full-body fitness (at level 1), stroking effectiveness and efficiency (at level 2), and distance rowing (at level 3).

I _already_ have three WR rows, achieved in similar ways, through patient training.
My goals are now well beyond that and therefore can only be pursued patiently, too.
OTErg, you don't have anything of the sort--if your talk here is any indication, for good reason.

Even without preparing for it, that is, by just winging it, for the last two years, I have rowed at WR levels for my age and weight.
Racing fully prepared, ou haven't.
All things considered, I am happy with my performances.
And I continue to be delighted with my training.
